Yes, there is a distinction to be made between hip hop culture and rap music. Rap is a music genre that originated from hip hop culture, as I understand it. While I agree with the sentiments expressed in Bridget's poem, we can't blame an entire culture or music genre for the misogynist lyrics, images and abuse of women no more than we, for example, should blame the entire movie industry for those movies that glorify sexual violence against women.
